Battleberg Ice, Austin, TX

If you're in Austin and around Ladybird Lake this weekend you might get a glimpse of Boozefox's new floating sculpture. My friends did an amazing job creating the ship and will be taking it for a spin up and down the lake all weekend.

Animal Constellation

I don't know about you, but this summer has been really distracting. While I maybe have been struggling to make regular posts, I have been successful in making other things. I recently took some photos of my friend Jules Buck Jones' work while it was hung for his Everglades show/book release. Not everyone was able to see the full effect of the glow-in-the-dark constellation painting during the show, so here it is now. You can (and should) purchase the book Everglades over at Monofonus.

My friend Jules Buck Jones is having a one-night art opening, celebrating his newly published book Everglades at Monofonus Press this Sunday . If you haven't already bought the book you can do so at the show. It's a 98 page multimedia book that's inspired by his summer residency in the Everglades National Park. Not only is this show going to be amazing, I hear there will be live reptiles too!!

Just becuase 10.2 ~ After Icebergs with a Painter by Ben Ruggiero

My friend, Ben Ruggiero has a new solo show opening this weekend at Testsite in Austin, TX. If you're in town you should come. The opening will be Sunday afternoon on June 6th. There will be a performance by Barry Stone and Matthew Kemp. I can hear them practicing in the other room right now.

"After Icebergs with a Painter references the romantic impulse realized by the painter Frederic Edwin Church in his Arctic paintings. Through a series of photographs, artist Ben Ruggiero examines the intentionality and the pursuit of the exotic in Hudson River School paintings and considers how those impulses inform representation and materiality in contemporary photographic practice and aesthetics." ~Testsite

PHILIPPE HALSMAN "Jumpology"

Philippe Halsman's never before seen series Jump is being shown at the Laurence Miller Gallery (NY) through May 28, 2010. In the 1950's Halsman photographed the rich, famous and powerful. After formal photography sessions with these prominent figures he would ask them to jump for a final image. The results are lighthearted and amusing. These men and women, with their shoes and heels off can hardy keep a serious face.

My question is: What's with all the cats being thrown ?
