Crafting

Here are a few of my summer creations. There are more to come.

I'm also taking requests if you want to purchase a custom designed one. Just e-mail me at sarahmurphy.images@gmail.com.

Open Room Austin

My friends Haleh and Veronica discovered this awesome public art dining space and had a potluck there this past weekend. It's not quite finished yet, but it's still usable. Just make sure that you bring your own candles or camping lights because the big lamps haven't been turned on yet. The only lame thing is that apparently Austin commissioned out-of-area artists to design the piece. Other than that it's quite nice.

Animal Constellation

I don't know about you, but this summer has been really distracting. While I maybe have been struggling to make regular posts, I have been successful in making other things. I recently took some photos of my friend Jules Buck Jones' work while it was hung for his Everglades show/book release. Not everyone was able to see the full effect of the glow-in-the-dark constellation painting during the show, so here it is now. You can (and should) purchase the book Everglades over at Monofonus.

Sweet Face Masks

I love the paper crafted face masks in this video. They remind me of the artist Bert Simons. He makes digitally printed 3-D paper portrait sculptures.

Smithsonian Folklife Festival, DC

A few weeks ago went to DC to visit my family for my Father's 60th's birthday. While in town I visited my friend Tamara who has been interning at the Smithsonian for their annual Folklife festival. Unfortunately a classic DC summer storm cut my visit short but I was able to take a few photographs. I love this man, just look at his hat and bag. All the bags I saw are hand woven and have such amazing detail and color.

Jules Buck Jones' Everglades

Jules Buck Jones: Everglades
Sunday, July 11, 6-10pm
The Monofonus Compound
610 Vermont Road
Austin, Texas

My friend Jules Buck Jones is having a one-night art opening, celebrating his newly published book Everglades at Monofonus Press this Sunday . If you haven't already bought the book you can do so at the show. It's a 98 page multimedia book that's inspired by his summer residency in the Everglades National Park. Not only is this show going to be amazing, I hear there will be live reptiles too!!
